ART & PROJECT A HISTORY
20世紀のオランダにおける現代美術ギャラリーの先駆者的存在であるギャラリーの一つ、「Art & Project」の意義と歴史をまとめた一冊。2023年9月から2024年2月までオランダ・オッテルローの「クレラーミュラー美術館（Kröller-Müller Museum）」で開催されている展覧会「The Love of Art Comes First. Art & Project」の開催に伴い刊行された。
33年（1968-2001年）以上にわたり、同ギャラリーはオランダ内外の現代美術の発展に極めて重要な役割を果たした。1968-1989年はアムステルダム、1990-1998年まではスロートドルプに拠点を置き、創設者のヘールト・ファン・ベイエレン（Geert van Beijeren）とアドリアーン・ファン・ラヴェステイイン（Adriaan van Ravesteijn）は、シャルロッテ・ポゼネンスケ（Charlotte Posenenske）、ヤン・ディベッツ（Jan Dibbets）、ギルバート＆ジョージ（Gilbert & George）、スタンリー・ブラウン（Stanley Brouwn）、ソル・ルウィット（Sol LeWitt）など、国内外のアーティストの革新的な作品のプログラムを発表していった。
同ギャラリーは、展覧会の宣伝の一環として156もの告知印刷物を発行したが、それはすぐにアーティストたちのコンセプチュアルなアイデアを盛り込んだ実験的なメディアとなり、作品そのものとしても機能するようになった。
展覧会、印刷物、ギャラリーを取り巻く社会のネットワーク、国際的なアート業界における影響力など、広範なリサーチと未発表のビジュアル資料に基づき、ギャラリー「Art & Project」の歴史と影響力を記録した見ごたえある1冊に仕上げられている。本書は、オランダの現代美術史を概観する上で欠かせない一冊であろう。英語版。
The Amsterdam gallery Art & Project (1968–2001) was pivotal to the evolution of contemporary art in the Netherlands and beyond. It presented a pioneering programme of work by national and international artists, including Charlotte Posenenske, Jan Dibbets, Gilbert & George, Stanley Brouwn, and Sol LeWitt. To advertise its shows, more than 150 bulletins were published by the gallery, which quickly became an experimental medium, incorporating the conceptual ideas of the artists and even functioning as works of art themselves. Based on extensive research and previously unpublished visual material, this large volume documents the history and influence of the Art & Project gallery.
