中国人アーティスト、リウ・シャオドン（劉 小東、Liu Xiaodong）の作品集。2020年に「リッソンギャラリー（Lisson Gallery）」のオンライン展覧会で発表され、高い評価を受けたパンデミック期間中のプロジェクト発表に伴い刊行された。

2020年前半、通常であればあちらこちら旅している作者は、世界的なシャットダウン、健康恐怖の深刻化、長期にわたる渡航禁止令などにより、アメリカを離れ、故郷・北京に戻ることができなくなった。ニューヨークの小さなアパートで、作者はCOVID-19第1波の期間中の規制と「ブラック・ライブズ・マターズ（Black Lives Matter、BLM）」による人種差別抗議を通じて変化する街の風景を記録した一連の水彩画を制作した。

本書は、この歴史的な瞬間を記録したものであり、強制されて滞在した期間中に制作したイラスト、写真、ドローイングを収録している。また、「ソロモン・R・グッゲンハイム美術館（Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum）」のシニア・キュレーターを務めるアレクサンドラ・マンロー（Alexandra Munro）による洞察に満ちたエッセイや、作者自身が日々の記録を書き下ろした日記（英中バイリンガル）も掲載されている。

This book commemorates Liu Xiaodong’s highly regarded pandemic project and online exhibition of 2020, entitled Spring in New York.

For the first half of 2020, the usually itinerant Chinese painter found himself unable to leave America and travel back to his home in Beijing due to global shutdowns, escalating health scares and lengthy travel bans. From a small New York apartment, Liu made a startling series of watercolours documenting the changing landscape of the city throughout the first wave of COVID-19 restrictions and the Black Lives Matters protests.

This body of work serves as a record of these landmark moments in history and this book includes illustrations, photographs and drawings from his enforced sojourn. It also includes an insightful essay by Alexandra Munroe, Senior Curator at Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, as well as the artist’s own written diary as a daily chronicle of his experiences.
