日本人写真家、岩﨑淳による作品集。本作は、無意識のうちに回想や記憶が精神的な絵を描くことがあるという、作者自身の実体験からスタートした作品。目の前に現実のシーンがあるとしても、時には比喩的なメッセージが垣間見える ー 我々に何かを暗示するかのように。実見するものと脳裏に思い浮かぶもの。それらを一つ一つ探究するかのように22枚のイメージは集められた。

「2012年から世界の各都市で撮影したシリーズですが、海外旅行の写真集ではありません。同時に、ランドスケープや生活の写真でもありません。撮っていた時期には、どのような形に纏め上げるということは意識せず、被写体に対するシンパシーを感じ、目の前の空気に自分の感情を投影し、関連付け、あたかも自分の感情を世の中と擦り合わせるような撮影方法を試みたのです。…」（アーティストステートメントより）

8年に渡り居住または訪れた10都市で撮影され、人生のキーを紡いだとも言えるこの作品は、我々に詩情な印象を与える。このイメージを見た我々はさて一体、何を脳裏に浮かべるだろうか。

Jun Iwasaki’s To Find The Right Chair pursues musings of the mind forming mental pictures of scenes of consciousness. The scene hangs there but occasionally there might emerge a glimpse of a metaphor. Throughout his shooting, he feels sympathy with subjects, by projecting his emotions onto them, associating and harmonizing with what he sees.
He is not a photographer yet, he is just an ordinary guy trying to live a daily life. For him, photography is a medium to express thought; like going to the supermarket to get the ingredients to cook soup for your friends. This book has 20 coloured and 2 b/w photographs taken with a small-format camera in 10 different cities where the photographer used to live, or visit, between 2012 and 2020. Each photo presents an historical yet insignificant moment in Iwasaki’s visual poetry.
